OG Anunoby spoke to the media about the major deal on Saturday before his first game with the Knicks on Monday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
What's most exciting about this next stage in his career? The 26-year-old is delighted to play in front of New York fans in a "iconic" venue and help the club win.
"Just to start playing," Anunoby remarked. "Excited to meet my teammates and play at MSG for the fans. Very exciting." He said: "It's a tough, resilient bunch, and we all want to win. I think I'll fit in well, just do everything it takes to win games."
Anunoby said he's ready to play with his new teammates after watching the Knicks' plays, going over some in warmups on Monday, and discussing offensive and defensive terminology.
He was questioned about hearing his name in trade negotiations over the previous few months and what it felt like to be traded. Anunobdy said he only wants "to help my team win" and didn't investigate trade rumors.
I was surprised, didn't know what was going on, but ready to move forward now," Anunoby. Anunoby said he was "definitely excited" to hear the trade was to the Knicks and thinks he's a good match for Tom Thibodeau since he can play all five spots.
"I think so," Anunoby remarked. A difficult player, I suppose. His players are tough. They play hard to win. I probably do all that."
After the 2023-2024 season, Anunoby has a player option and may become an unrestricted free agent. Instead of commenting, the forward "takes it day by day" and lets his agency negotiate.
